CACTUS architects

Peter Gray is the founding Principal of Cactus Architects. Having retired from his previous practice in 2008, Peter decided to re-enter architecture and established Cactus Architects in 2013.

Experience counts. Cactus has provided planning studies and feasibilities, design, graphics, documentation, construction procurement and project implementation, in commercial, workspace, retail, hotels, hospitality, developments, high-end private homes, multi residential developments and educational facilities.

Since early 2023, Cactus focusses only on selected projects, so architecture is no longer the mainstay of the business.

Graymatters

Many organisations that carry out occasional property projects lack the time or experience to properly facilitate their projects.

When he retired from Gray Puksand, Peter Gray was approached by several organisations to assist them with project specific tasks. It all started with the Building the Education Revolution rollout, helping three independent schools implement their BER projects.

It hasn’t stopped there and as Graymatters evolves, so does the work that it does.

The work with the schools further expanded into specialist superintendence for major tertiary institutions. We have assisted a listed property trust with a major project in Flinders Street and a private investor with significant property holdings rationalise its portfolio to optimise values, sell major assets and develop smaller ones over 13 years now, and that work continues.

Expert advice and evidence has also gained momentum over the past 6 or 7 years and is now a part of Graymatters’ core business.

Our commissions typically include Design Management, Development Management, Contract Superintendence, Troubleshooting and Expert Evidence in legal matters.

Importantly too, we work with other architects where their clients may seek an independent Superintendent or where the architect prefers to focus on design.
